About Joel
While many practitioners operate with particular ‘recipes’ for treating clients, I treat each individual as a whole and unique case. Sessions may differ from one to the next, and treatment is dependent upon the client’s needs in the moment and the feedback that I receive from each client.
Joel Banuelos, CMT
Manual Therapist
Bio
I was born and raised in Fresno, CA in a family of six. In 1995 I moved to Berkeley where I earned my bachelors degree in psychology at UC Berkeley. Looking for a career path in manual therapies, I relocated to Santa Fe New Mexico and began my training in massage therapy. I now have over 20 years of experience as a massage and manual therapist, treating individuals that are looking for pain relief and functional improvement. I have extensive training in craniosacral therapy, visceral manipulation, myofascial release, joint mobilization and nerve manipulation, and have taught classes in medical massage, sports massage, anatomy, physiology and kinesiology. I am currently instructing classes in Advanced Anatomy, Muscle Energy Technique, Myofascial Release and a graduate-level Clinical Massage Certificate program at Hawaii Healing Arts College in Kailua.
Outside of work, I am an avid tennis player and father of a 4-year old. I have a history of athletics and movement practices that range from bicycling, martial arts, gymnastics, soccer and distance running. Currently my wife, daughter and I really enjoy frequenting Oahu’s beautiful beaches to swim, paddle board and play in the sand, and we are the happy caretakers of 3 wonderfully quirky Araucana hens in Central Oahu.
Service Philosophy
My practice is centered on treating each client as an individual in need of physical assistance. I use a variety of assessment and evaluation tools to direct my treatments, and a multitude of techniques in order to help ease/decrease an individual’s pain and restore proper movement and function.
